West Virginia vs. Texas Game Recap

MORGANTOWN W.V.a- Mountaineers took a tough loss against the Longhorns (82-81) this past Saturday, February 26. The game took place at West Virginia’s Coliseum at 2:00. Texas entered the bonus with 10 minutes left in the second half.

West Virginia coach Bob Huggins provided insight courtside on issues that erupted during this highly anticipated game, “We’ve got guys trying to make plays that have no business trying to make plays. You can’t keep making the same mistakes. We forced things that just weren’t there.” Layup by Guard, Taz Sherman assisted by Forward Gabe Osabuohien, was the play that lead the Mountaineers up by 10, following by fouls and missed jumpers.

Texas Longhorn senior, Timmy Allen, was a highlight for his team on Saturday, taking advantage in the final 7 minutes of the game at the free throw line . The forward giving it his all, scored 15 points. Throughout the whole game, gathered 10 rebounds in total. Allen changing his game mindset from the previous mountaineer vs. Longhorn game that took place January 1, “I looked passive and I looked not as strong, So I just wanted to come out and be aggressive” shared during an interview about the shift in play.

Mountaineer Guard, Malik Currey holding performance all season will need more help to win the next two games; “We can’t continue to expect Malik to carry us. If that last one goes in, this streak stops” Huggins expresses about the hold put on Currey to win. The next two games have the ability to bring back WVU’s name and reputation, with continuously getting rebounded (11), can change with the team Huggins wants to work together.

The Mountaineers may have lost with a standing of 3-13 of seasons wins and losses, however had 3 key players that fought hard to get to the extremely close final score. Guard Malik Curry scored his season high 27 points, with freethrows, steals, and layups. Currey holding high hope, cannot be the only one. As well as Sherman adding 13 points with three point jumpers in the 2nd half. Osabuohien also a key player scored 12 points, with the three adding more than half of the mountaineer total score.

Texas Longhorns being 4th standing in the Big 12 conference holds hope to continue adding a winning streak for the remainder of the season, which is one last game of the conference. West Virginia Mountaineers standing last in Big 12 conference with a losing streak of 6, has 2 games left to leave the season on a better note.

MORGANTOWN W.V.- West Virginia is known for its beautiful, natural trails that are deeply rooted with vibrant colors. Tourism is heavily popular in the spring, summer, and fall. However, the hidden gems within W.V. happen when the snow falls, the winter trails for hiking.

A breathtaking location with an attraction to it all year long is White Park. The hiking trail-as well popular for mountain biking- offers an experience of a waterfall and stream, or a chance to slide on the frozen, rocky stream and take a chance on seeing the icicles form on the waterfall.

“This park is located close to South Park in Morgantown. It’s about a fifteen minute drive from downtown, which is a nice, easy getaway for those like me.” Writer for WvuGo, Hannah Morgan describes on her warmer experience in White Park. As its a getaway for adventure lovers that need a unique trail to hike to.

White Park is only a glimpse of the Winter Trails West Virginia provides with its natural beauty. Many other trails located near Morgantown involve Ravens Rock, a scenic, outlook, view  that is considered best in the winter due to its moderate difficulty on the way back versus the swift walk up the rock. “I’ve taken many trips out to the peaceful rock either alone or with my girlfriend and dog to escape the business of everyday life” Andrew Spellman, adventurer of WV describes his love for the calm raven rock.

The reasoning for the love of winter trails is the difference in feeling the hike from heat to cold. In the summer, it can be more hard, sweat-inducing, or miserable in the heat, rather the winter there is more room for heat due to the cold, wind, and different kind of icy beauty to experience.

Winter Trails around West Virginia are different than in summer, and more worth it in the winter time for its scenery. As many cross off trails once the weather gets cooler, taking adavantage of the snowy nature, all to ones self will complete a memory about almost heaven.

For the Adventure Photography Assignment I had gone to White Park to emphasize Winter Hiking in West Virginia.West Virginia has different beautiful views than any other state, especially with the ability to go adventure for the outcome being a wonderful view. I had a plan in mind to feature the waterfall, my dog in action, focus on nature and beauty, and how the sun comes through the trees. Although, I had only captured “half” of what was in my mind. I had learned through this assignment what I want to improve on through extra practice, such as more with ISO, Aperture, and Exposure. Since it takes me time to think of what it needs to be set at, and it is not always right, I would like to practice and know right away what a correct setting would be at, without it being out of my skill level.
I had a few technical challenges in the beginning of my adventure assignment, which were largely due to not exactly having the correct setting for ISO or Aperature, and I had to take more time than expected to experiment with how narrow or wide it should be. I managed to overcome it by taking the time to experiment with each setting until I felt proud. However, there were some photos. I thought were good on the camera, that I began noticing blur in movement on the computer. The composition is well-balanced, close and focused, as well as some action and emotion in the photographs. If I could change and do some photographs differently, I would have did a longer exposure on the waterfall to capture the soft, silky look of water.
